On Monday, 14 June 2021, ENSE secretary general Louis Moustakas participated in the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) Consultative Committee Plenary Meeting. Mr. Moustakas presented the extensive work that ENSE has done in the field of sport education, including projects such as EDU:PACT and SEDY.

In addition, ENSE joined the annual EPAS Governing Board meeting on June 15-16. The event was held online to discuss the EPAS programme of activities ranging from the impact of COVID-19 on sport activities, to child safeguarding, to closed sports leagues

The revision of the European Sports Charter was also a prominent subject during the meeting. "We are pleased to see that the new Charter calls for increased education around human rights, safety and integrity in sport" said Mr. Moustakas, "Up to now, policy has often called on sport to deliver social benefits without necessarily recognizing the need for such education"

2021 - Annual meeting of the EPAS Governing Board and Consultative Committee

ENSE has been an official member of the Consultative Committee of the EPAS since 2018, while Mr. Moustakas was elected as a Bureau Member for the Consultative Committee CC in September last year. More information on the two-day meeting can be found here.

The demographic composition of Europe has changed dramatically over the last 20 years, and migration within and from outside the EU has significantly increased. This sharp increase in migration and cultural diversity presents new challenges and opportunities in host countries for both the so-called majority and minority populations.

Physical education teachers and coaches are often at the forefront of these diversifying societies, and work with culturally, ethnically, and linguistically heterogeneous groups. Despite this, teachers and coaches have not been well prepared for the task of intercultural education through sport.

Against this background, the EDU:PACT project has aimed to improve the quality of pre-service and in-service education to prepare physical education teachers and coaches for inclusive intercultural education. Now, after nearly three years of work, we are proud to announce that we have taken a significant step towards achieving that goal through the release of the EDU:PACT Handbook.

The EDU:PACT Handbook presents the fundamental thematic and theoretical building blocks for successful intercultural education in sport. As such, its contents can be used flexibly and adapted according to different groups and local needs. The content from this handbook is divided into four distinct units and can be used as the basis for modules or individual courses meant to train physical education teachers or coaches on the different components of intercultural education. A selection of practical activities complements each unit in an interactive and hands-on fashion.

The handbook can be downloaded in English, and translations will be ready soon. An online companion toolkit will be released in the coming weeks. We also welcome continued feedback on the handbook, and we would appreciate if you could take five minutes to provide your input in this short survey.

“Training the Female Sport for All Leaders of Tomorrow” aims to equip and empower a new generation of young European and African women who are engaged in Sport for All with the necessary skills, knowledge, experiences and guidance to lead the global Sport for All Movement.

Through a comprehensive global mobility and mentoring scheme, the participants will strengthen their future employability and enhance their personal and professional development through the acquisition of new skills and knowledge gained through non-formal education and time spent in a foreign country.

This project is led by The Association for International Sport For All (TAFISA) and also includes ENSE, as well as the Slovenian Olympic Committee and the African Union Sports Council Region 5.

Through this scheme, mentoring trios comprised of one mentee from Africa, one mentee from Europe and one mentor (either from Africa or Europe) will be created. These trios will share knowledge and experiences, the mentees will work on a collaborative project, and each mentee will participate in three international, face-to-face mobility activities

As part of this project, ENSE is looking for two European mentees from within its network to take part in this mentorship scheme. Due to the difficulties created by the Covid-19 situation around the world, the application deadline has been extended to May 1, 2020. Application documents can be sent to info (a) sporteducation.eu.

Please note that mentees need to be affiliated with current ENSE member organisations to be eligible (see our members here). Individuals from other organisations will not be considered at this point.

Mentees are expected to fully comply with all project Guidelines and are asked to submit a completed Application Form and Letter of Support when applying.
