On the 25th October, the European Commission published the Call for Proposals for 2018 and the corresponding project guide.
Part of this call includes funding related specifically to sport-based projects. These projects should focus on one of three key areas: learning mobility, cooperation for innovation, and support for policy reports. Grants for small collaborations up to 60000 EUR as well as larger collaborations of up to 400 000 EUR are available.
The deadline for applications is April 5, 2018. The formal application guide can be found here. Organizations wishing to apply for funding in this context must meet the eligibility criteria and conditions set out in the Guide. The document contains detailed information on the objectives, application and award criteria of the different project types and therefore forms the basis for all applicants.

In the year 2016, the Vrije Universiteit Brussels, an ENSE member — with the support of streetfootballworld, ENGSO youth and VDAB — was commissioned by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Union to investigate sport’s contribution to the employability of young people in the context of the Europe 2020 strategy.
The final report of this study was released last month.
This study investigates sport’s contribution to the employability of young NEETs (not in employment, education or training) in the context of the Europe 2020 strategy. Its aim is to identify the key components needed to effectively produce outcomes in sport for employability programmes. Through this, a generic ‘programme theory’ for optimal sport for employability programmes then developed which identified the key components, mechanisms, relationships and a presumed sequence of causes and effects. Thus, this study can also be used as a robust basis for monitoring and evaluation of existing programmes, as well as to optimise design and implementation of future initiatives. Insights from this study also provide the basis for a number of policy recommendations

Dr. Karen Petry, President of ENSE, participated in the 2nd International Dead Sea Conference on Sport and Health Science in Jordan from the 1st until the 3rd of November 2017. The conference, which was organized by the Sports Faculty of the University of Jordan in Amman in cooperation with the Sports Institute of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and the DAAD, was titled "Challenge of Change" and served as a platform for setting up a sports science network with Arab and European partners.
Approximately 120 sports scientists mainly from Jordan and other Arab countries (Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia) as well as from Brazil and Japan participated in the conference. As part of her lecture, Dr. Karen Petry presented the results of the EU-funded SPEACH project (Sport, Education and Coaching in Health) and discussed possibilities of the implementation the SPEACH Modules with the conference delegates.
The SPEACH Project aims to educate future sport professionals by developing ‘Health Enhancing Physical Activity’ (HEPA) modules that can be integrated in existing Physical Education and Sport Coaching programmes. The project is slated to run until the end of 2017 and more information can be found on its website.
